Douglas Chaney
President
Dallas/Fort Worth Roundtable CSCMP
I’m not sure
how many of you have ever been to an annual global convention for
CSCMP, but this was my third. As usual, it was a chance to learn,
meet new people, see some old friends from around the globe and
enjoy and extended stay in a new city. For the educators amongst us,
they had meetings starting on Sunday and most participated during
the week. The rest of us started on Monday morning and lasted until
noon on Wednesday. Educational sessions, with dozens of topics are
offered throughout the day to help with understanding the events and
trends in our industry.
An additional benefit was location. Denver is fantastic, the
mountains just beyond the skyline, the crisp air of the morning
sweeping down from the golden aspen trees on the mountain sides.
It’s a laid back city that was clean, well organized for the event
and offered a wonderful time to all. In addition, I took a couple of
days in Vail after the conference to see relax in the off-season at
my favorite ski resort.
I would like to thank William T. Manley, Manager, International
Licensing Analysis
& External Supply Chain Integration, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics
Company. Due to the national conference, I was not able to attend,
but all of the comments that I have heard are that it was an
outstanding presentation. We are working on a tour of the Lockheed
facility and will keep you all posted whether that will work out.
Greg Chalkley will present at our next dinner meeting recent changes
in the regulatory environment in China. He will summarize most
of the new challenges facing companies as they venture into doing
business in China. It should be fascinating to hear from
another leading organization in the DFW area.
Roundtable Schedule:
11/13 Doing Business in China, Greg Chalkley, Texas Instruments
(dinner)
1/15 Looming Transportation Crisis,
Vic Suhm, Tarrant Regional Transportation Coalition (lunch)
2/12 New Export Cargo Scanning
Regulations, Ruth Poratta, Department of Homeland Security & Charles
Morton, Panalpina World Transport. (dinner)
3/12 Tour Lockheed Martin, Bill
Manley
4/5 Nancy Nix, TCU (Lunch/Breakfast)
4/9 Supply & Demand in Truck Load
Industry, Dick Metzler, Great Wide Logistics Services (lunch)
5/7 Green & Supply Chain, Mark
Whittaker, Frito Lay
Sponsorships
This year we are offering a great opportunity for your company to
sponsor the Dallas/Fort Worth Roundtable. Chemical Logistics Inc
will be our sponsor for the networking session at our November
Meeting.
As you know, CSCMP mission is to lead
the evolving supply chain management profession by developing,
advancing, and disseminating supply chain knowledge and research.
CSCMP also promotes supply chain careers at the college and
university levels. The Dallas/Fort Worth Roundtable does this on a
local level with monthly meetings. This opportunity will allow your
organization to support the meetings, tours, training seminars and
fund our scholarship programs for supply chain majors at area
universities and colleges.
We are needing companies like yours to sponsor the CSCMP Roundtable.
If you are the person in your organization to make that decision,
please contact us for more information. If you know the person in
your organization, we would love an introduction or the very least,
give them the prospectus from the website.

This is an exciting opportunity to have you organization show its

Event Recaps:
Dannon Tour
Baronda Bradley
Eighteen
members of the local Dallas/Fort Worth chapter of CSCMP toured the
Fort Worth manufacturing plant on Wednesday, August 6th. Dannon’s
Director of Customer Logistics Mike Robinson talked with our members
about the logistics of refrigerated distribution—from product range,
target markets, and the health benefits of yogurt, to an explanation
of Dannon’s customer base, from grocery, convenience stores, and
“away from home” markets to large institutional buyers. Visitors
were commonly surprised to learn that this national brand is
produced right in their backyard—and has been for more than 30
years!
Besides on-location comments about the plant’s cleanliness and
operational superiority, next-day e-mails about the facility and
tour included:
• Your office did a phenomenal job!! I watch “How It’s Made” all the
time and the tour was way better than the Yoplait plant in Canada. —Lennie
Trocard, C.H.Robinson
• I was really fascinated with all the work you were doing in
customer logistics to create more value for yourself and your
clients. —Srikanth Srinivas , RiverLogic
• It sure was nice to learn about your process and the ways you are
approaching the issues you are facing from the logistics standpoint.
I thought it’s particularly interesting that through statistical
analyses and the reconfiguration of that data, you were able to find
a more efficient solution to the cost of transportation, eventually
going toward bracket pricing. —Roberty Velasco, Bear Transportation
A world of thanks goes out to the many individuals at Dannon who
helped make this tour such a success.

October Luncheon
Ken Bagley
On October 9th at the beautiful LA Cima Restaurant overlooking
Las Colinas and the Metroplex skylines your Dallas Fort Worth
Roundtable CSCMP kicked off its first Luncheon of the fall session.
Our guest speaker was William T. Manley who is Manager,
International Licensing Analyst Supply Chain Integration for
Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company. Mr. Manley’s topic was on
Modeling/Simulating Supply Chain Pre- Plans with suppliers and
developing concepts and strategies with these partners for the F-35
Joint Strike Fighter. Besides partners, Mr. Manley reviewed the
numerous countries involved in this off set program designed for
decades into the future.
Attendance for this event had more than the RSVP and thanks to the
La Cima staff and Roundtable members the last minute intrigued shows
were well accommodated. If success is measured on requests for Mr.
Manley’s presentation than you can be most strongly assured a fine
performance was witnessed by all in attendance. On behalf of all of
us at the Dallas Fort Worth Roundtable CSCMP and everyone in
attendance we thank Mr. Manley for his hard work and effort in
constructing and presenting an outstanding program. By the way,
after his presentation Mr. Manley hinted at providing a tour of
Lockheed Martin during the spring for each of you. Each year the
Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, offer you three
dinners, luncheons and facility tours!
